Walk and Talk – Metchosin natural history highlights

Metchosin Biodiversity Walk and Talk Series.

Talk #128 happens on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 7 pm. In this slide lecture, “2025, the Year in Nature,” Kem Luther and Andy MacKinnon will review Metchosin natural history highlights of 2025. Last year was our best-ever tally of new species in Metchosin—with the help of over a thousand observers and identifiers, we added 450 species to our count, making a total of 4250 from the last fifteen years! We have astounding pictures and amazing stories.

As most of you know, we have no budget for the Talk and Walks. All speakers donate their time, and volunteers prepare the room and provide the snacks. We will now have to pay for meeting space, however. We’re still ironing out the details, but chances are that you will find a donation box in the room. If you could bring along a little bit to throw into the box, we would appreciate your help.

This new meeting room requires that you walk up a short flight of stairs, so there will (sadly) be no wheelchair access for the Talk and Walks. Also, though the room is large, we are not sure there are enough chairs in it. If some of you could bring along camp chairs or folding chairs to the upcoming meeting, then we won’t run short.

As always, cookies and drinks are provided. Looking forward to seeing you all again!
